Personal
Computer Coaching - Case Study
The
problem
A
busy freelance writer was updating one of his e-books for re-release.
He accepted inconsistent formatting throughout the book, since changing
each bit of text would take too long. Headers and footers also were
not consistent; he wrestled with those. He typed his table of contents,
electronically flipping pages to check where chapters started. The
table of contents was mostly right when he handed the book to a
copyeditor.
The
solution
Luigi
Benetton looked through this book and asked what the writer wanted
to fix. Based on the writer's comments and Luigi's own observations
of a copy of the book, Luigi also offered suggestions that were
eagerly accepted. On the day of the coaching appointment, Luigi
taught the writer what he needed to know - using his own book. Luigi
explained each Word feature in context, allowing time for the writer
to ask for clarification and grasp other possible uses for features
he learned.
The
testimonial
In
his book, the writer acknowledged Luigi’s service:
In
addition, I would like to thank Luigi for helping me learn how to
use Word’s automatic table of contents and style formats. I must
also acknowledge his patience during my frantic Skype call for help
in sorting out Word’s headers and footers mere days before I was
to launch the book. The fact that this book contains a table of
contents, headers and footers, and page numbers are a testament
to his training.
